Ooredoo Oman to deliver industry-leading 4G roaming coverage to its subscribers through Telenor agreement

Ooredoo Oman and Telenor today signed a combined agreement for LTE Roaming Exchange and international Voice services which provides Ooredoo Oman subscribers with industry-leading 4G roaming coverage, with an enhanced user experience.

The launch of LTE networks continues rapidly worldwide as mobile operators address increasing consumer demand for high bandwidth services such as multimedia content and applications – anytime, anywhere. Through Telenor’s Diameter Routing Agent (DRA), Ooredoo Oman will have direct access to Telenor’s 270 global  4G networks as well as direct 4G access  to Telenor’s 13 mobile operations worldwide, making 4G roaming to key destinations possible for Ooredoo Oman’s 2 million subscribers.

“We are delighted to agree this contract with Ooredoo Oman as they are a key operator in the Gulf region. Our launch enables subscribers of both Ooredoo Oman and Telenor’s direct peering partners to benefit from 4G when roaming in each other’s networks, with improved call quality,” says Bjørn Iversen, CMO of Global Wholesale – the international wholesale operations of Telenor. “As we are the LTE gateway for Telenor, this agreement also enables subscribers of Ooredoo Oman to have direct 4G access to our 13 Telenor mobile operations globally,” adds Iversen.

“We have a long-standing and important relationship with Telenor, and we are very satisfied with their ability to understand our needs and complex challenges in deploying LTE roaming. By their extensive experience and ability for fast deployment of services we are now able to offer high quality 4G roaming and international voice services to our subscribers, with high call quality in mind,” says Jim Maxell, Chief Legal, Regulatory & Wholesale Officer in Ooredoo Oman. “Telenor has been a pioneer with LTE Roaming, both globally and in many local markets, and their extensive global 4G coverage is of significant importance as it allows for quality roaming in both our networks,” he ends.
